The 2024 BMW X5 was stolen on Monday, Nov. 11, from a car wash on Post Road in Darien around 2:45 p.m., authorities said. The owner told police they were drying the SUV when two men in masks climbed out of an unknown vehicle, hopped into the beamer's driver's seat, and sped away. They didn't mention or show any weapons during the incident.
A day later, police found the BMW in Flushing, New York, with a license plate from a different vehicle on the SUV, authorities said on Tuesday, Nov. 19. New York City police watched the car and waited for the suspect to return.
Justin Castillo, 19, was arrested after a brief foot chase with officers when he returned to the SUV, Darien police said. Authorities found the car's key on Castillo when they handcuffed him.
NYPD charged Castillo with possession of stolen property, officials said.
Darien police are investigating the carjacking, and it's unclear if Castillo took part in the theft.
